Thierry Mugler Spring/Summer 2012 | Paris Fashion Week
The opening look for Thierry Mugler Spring/Summer 2012 set the tone for a slick modernist look by Formichetti anchored on strong shoulders and sexy cut-out details. Those needle-thin heels are out of this world! The overall Spring 2012 collection is a bit more tame in comparison to last season’s fiasco. It’s not overbearingly sexy and the fit on the pants are great. Very interesting. What are YOUR thoughts on Nicola Formichetti and Mugler’s latest work?

Lady Gaga made her runway debut last night during Paris Fashion Week for her stylist Nicola Formichetti’s Mugler womenswear debut. Gaga was the musical director of the show with remixes of “Government Hooker”, which was released for the first time during the show, and “Born This Way”. If that is what a Gaga fashion show is, she should be hired as a musical director for every designer’s fashion show.
Gaga made her entrance through the gothic cathedral arches of the runway in a black leather dress with sheer top and leather bra top. She hunched over against an arch, bathed in red light and smoking a cigarette. She wore two long sweeping platinum blond ponytails under a hat, which was a mix between an Asian conical hat and a beret. For her second appearance she wore a pink and white latex corset with sheer top and floor-sweeping gown.
Lady Gaga schooled the models, walking in foot-high platform booties like she was born in them. Meanwhile, models in much shorter platforms, were tripping on the runway. At the very least, their stumbles were in sync with the music. Not only were the wobbles in sync with Gaga’s soundtrack, but one model felt the music so much she danced her way down the runway singing “Born This Way”.
Gaga’s appearance made the show unforgettable, but Formichetti’s creations were not completely upstaged by the performer’s presence. Sheer materials highlighted the collection, including dresses with sheer tops exposing leather bra tops or more than just a bra. The animal prints were quite authentic-looking, such as a cheetah print bodysuit and tights. Latex jackets over the sheer looks would have been perfect for Rihanna’s S&M video. Liquid leathers and latex made the pieces look juicy and created a thirst for Mugler fashion. Keeping the extravagant looks as simple as possible, the color scheme was black, cobalt, white and naughty nude.
The models looks were very animalistic with “deer in a headlight” eye makeup and hair gelled upward on the sides like a fawn from an S&M version of Bambi.
Gaga’s runway debut and Formichetti’s womenswear debut for Mugler was hands-down a success. Twitter was all abuzz before, during and after the show. The Mugler Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection show might have just set a new standard for what a fashion show should be.
